Rural Rotations

Trackers are required to complete a minimum of two, month-long rotations involving wilderness medicine. Opportunities exist at a variety of clinics, or residents may develop their own through work with rural clinics, national parks, search and rescue outfits or international organizations. These rotations may doubly fill the rural rotation requirement or support one's research effort.

  • Mammoth Clinic: near the Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park
  • Red Lodge Clinic: at the foot of the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness and Red Lodge Mountain
  • Big Sky Clinic: at the base of the Big Sky Resort with an emphasis in orthopedics
  • North Valley Hospital: Whitefish Montana near Glacier National Park and Big Mountain Resort
Wilderness Advanced Life Support (WALS)

In conjunction with Wilderness Medical Society (WMA), the WMT sponsors a bi-annual WALS course for all ALS-certified providers and medical students. Our next WALS course will be held from Saturday morning, May 5 to Wednesday afternoon, May 9 2007 in Red Lodge, MT. Please contact us at wildmedtrack@ycchd.org for further information or follow the WALS link for course content, pricing and logistical information. Residents and medical students receive discounted tuition and are thus encouraged to apply.
