Other interests have lead her to Kenya for two months studying the effectiveness of different health organizations and working as co-chair of the women's clinic in the student-run free clinic at UNC. Courtnay made the trek up north again after she graduated from the University of Texas at Galveston. She first grew to love this area when she worked for a year in Yellowstone National Park after graduating from college and we are happy to help her return to the area. During medical school she was involved in several medical mission trips in Mexico, worked with indigent patients in the student-run free clinic, and volunteered with a County Health Department immunization program. Courtnay speaks French and some Spanish and enjoys mountain biking, backcountry hiking and sprint triathlons. She also an accomplished cross country skier and member of the Wilderness Medicine Track.

His out-of-school work has ranged from work on the family farm to the Holiday Inn front desk: all providing him with skills that serve him well during residency--smile and say "hi" then buckle down to work!
